About us

During 2006 the Sheffield Civic Trust was instrumental in the donation of artwork from the Echo City Team, who exhibited at the Venice Architecture Biennale 2006, in the Town Halls art collection. In 2007 the trust reviewed several projects including the Moor redevelopment and Hallam Towers. The trust hosted debates on Climate Change, the City Centre and Urban Mediation.  They also collaborated with ‘Sheffield Now’ to create an Architecture Centre for Sheffield.  The trust will be starting 2008 with a ‘Big Art Debate’, looking at what exactly will replace the Tinsley Cooling Towers.

Who is on the committee of the Sheffield Civic Trust? Some artists and architects, an accountant, a solicitor, a working mum, an expert in environmental issues, a gardener, a planner and some people who just love Sheffield and want the best for it, so they’re trying to do their bit. Who are our members? People living in Sheffield, people interested in Sheffield. Some are design professionals but lots aren’t, there’s a jazz singer who wishes the cycle lanes were better, there are lots of community organisations who want better facilities for the people they represent, there are some big important companies who are based in the city. They all think Sheffield is great and can only get better, especially if we keep asking for it to be brilliant and learning about how it can be. Development in your city affects all of us, express your opinion and be heard!
